This ribbon represents the United Nations Operation in the Congo (ONUC), established in 1960 following the Republic of the Congo’s independence. ONUC was the UN’s first major peacekeeping mission, running until 1964, and played a vital role in stabilisation and humanitarian support during the crisis.
The 1st Type ONUC ribbon features a UN blue background with a central green stripe flanked by narrow yellow edges, symbolising peace (blue), the Congo (green), and hope (yellow).
